Wacker Neuson provides support in the construction of the world’s first energy island

In the middle of the North Sea, around 45 kilometers off the Belgian coast, there is an ongoing project that is writing history: the “Princess Elisabeth Island”, the world’s first energy island. From 2030, it is set to serve as the central intersection for Europe’s sustainable energy supply. The six-hectare island is being erected on a total of 23 huge caissons, each measuring about 60 meters in length, 30 meters in width and 22 meters in height.

In order for this monumental construction to withstand the North Sea’s extreme conditions, reliable concrete compaction plays a crucial role. It is precisely here that Wacker Neuson comes into play.

Internal vibrators ensure precise concrete compaction

At the construction site in Vlissingen, Netherlands, more than 120 powerful, high-frequency internal vibrators IRFU are being used. These units compact the concrete around the clock during the pouring processes lasting several days.

Each of the 23 caissons is continually poured for between seven and eight days. In the process, compaction must be reliably performed to guarantee stability and longevity.

We can completely rely on the quality of advice provided by Wacker Neuson and the reliability of their products. Very good solutions have been found for all our technical problems.

Flexibility with the battery-converter backpack ACBe

A particular highlight on the construction site is the battery-converter backpack ACBe, which makes it possible to work without cables. Operators are able to use the internal vibrator without bothering supply cables. This not only increases the freedom of movement, but it also improves construction site safety—no trip hazards as a result of cables in wet concrete.

Inside the backpack is the Battery One battery, a sturdy lithium-ion battery, which can be quickly changed if required. As soon as the battery is empty, it can be easily exchanged, and work can immediately continue—you couldn’t get more efficient and sustainable if you tried.

Tradition meets innovation

Concrete consolidation has a long tradition at Wacker Neuson: Already in the 1930s, the company developed its first internal vibrator. Today, the team of Concrete Solutions is developing this experience further and combining it with state-of-the-art technology and personalized consultation on complex concrete projects.

As a pioneer for more than ten years, Wacker Neuson is simultaneously investing in electrically powered products and distributing them with the “zero emission” label. The use of the battery-converter backpack ACBe impressively shows that sustainable construction projects and maximum efficiency go hand-in-hand.
